Hello there, today I am starting something new, a mini-series on tips to consider when working on elevating your everyday outfits. These are small anecdotes that have helped me through the years when getting dressed and they are good to remind myself of even now (it’s so funny how it can be human nature to forget the small things that were once so life-changing to you).
So let’s get into it.
The first tip on elevating your everyday style is understanding that elevated style does not necessarily mean wearing dressier outfits altogether. An example of this would be changing from leggings to denim or from sneakers to boots or flats. Now, wearing less casual pieces absolutely can make an outfit feel more elevated, but I have found that you can still elevate your outfits on casual days without completely changing into a more dressed-up look. “Elevating” a look on the ultra-casual days comes more from the place of wearing details that feel special to you and intentionally create a feeling, or by swapping something like a legging for a pant that has the same comfort level, and the same dressiness level, but looks a little bit more polished.
So let’s take my outfit today for instance, it’s very casual, almost tipping into athleisure, but it feels more elevated than if I had worn leggings, not added jewelry, and worn a darker bag.
The parachute pants add texture, volume, and create a line while also giving me the comfort and causal vibes of a legging. The jewelry, hair, and makeup are also just small touches that show intentionality in the most subtle way. And lastly the bag, the bag makes a big impact here because it creates visual color blocking within my outfit and feels more special than if I had just paired this look with a black shoulder bag (even though that technically would go well with this outfit).
The lesson from this look is that it’s more than okay to keep the causal comfort days the casual comfort days, and the goal with elevating those days lies less in changing into dressier clothes and more in the specific pieces we choose that keep the feeling of comfort in function, but look and feel to us slightly more intentional and special.

Well, that’s all for now, but just a quick reminder elevating your daily outfits takes a little effort, and even for the most seasoned fashion vets it takes some time in the morning to put together an outfit that feels amazing and works for what the specific day holds. Also what feels elevated to you and makes you feel good can change from day to day or week to week just like we do as people. So I hope you will be gentle with yourself and take time to care for yourself today.
