Spring is upon us, flowers are popping up all around, and all I can think about are the dreamy days ahead and all the ways I want to freshen up my life and wardrobe.
I’ve been thinking a lot about ways to break down outfits for myself to make getting dressed and enjoying a variety of the clothing I own something that is simple and exciting.
So for this spring, I put together 5 outfit formulas (recipes if you will) as a starting point for what I’ll be wearing. And as a challenge to myself, I broke down each outfit into two pieces each to make it even more simple and repeatable.
Of course I’ll be adding some styling tips on how to layer and on what you could add or exchange for each idea, but consider it a jumping off point!
Let’s dive in shall we?
Outfit Formula #1: Floral Maxi + Sneakers
For this outfit, I paired together two of my favorite clothing items flowy dresses and sneakers. There’s something about the contrast of the two that really seem to flow with my personality.
It feels feminine, yet spunky and wearable. Mmmm yes, I’m feeling all these adjectives, aren’t you?
Styling Notes | With this outfit combination, consider wearing a structured bag to create a contrast to an otherwise flowy outfit. And if you would like to add some edge to the outfit add a structured leather jacket to keep you warm on those chilly nights.

Outfit Formula #2: Blazer + Vintage Jean
For look #2, I paired two items that just complement each other really well. There’s something about a more relaxed jean and a structured blazer that says you mean business but in a casual way.
Here I go again pairing things that are opposite of each other. I’ve found this to be a theme in my wardrobe.
Styling Notes | Pair this duo with a tee, some necklaces or bold earring, a sneaker or a strappy sandal and ka-blamo you got yourself a kickin’ outfit (trying to remember what show I heard the term ka-blamo on:)). Check out the items here:

Outfit Formula #3: Skater Dress + Bootie
This is an oldie but a goodie in my book. The combination of a mini skater dress and bootie or sneaker is a look that I will always have in my wardrobe because its effortless enough for errands and chilling, but playful enough for going out in the evenings.
And I don’t know about you, but I really enjoy outfits that easily transition from daily do’s because I feel like I’m not constantly needing to change based on the occasion.
Styling Notes | For cooler spring temperature add tights underneath and a light jacket, otherwise add a hoop earring and a simple crossbody bag to complete the look.

Outfit Formula #4: Coverall + Strappy Sandal
Oooo ooo do I love this combo. There is nothing like having a few “one and done’s” in your closet to make getting stylishly dressed, easy as pie.
Third time over here with the contrasting idea but I love the masculine more bulky mechanic suit paired with a strappy modern sandal because in a lot of ways these two items are opposite. And opposites make for a great outfit, am I right?!
Styling Notes | Add a fanny pack for a more on-trend look, or stick with a crossbody and layer some necklaces. Not a lot that you need to do here to make this look good which is such a win!

Outfit Formula #5: Fitted Tank + Dad Jean
For this last outfit, I think it’s always nice to have a very simple look ready to go just to keep things super easy when life is crazy. And this is a great balanced outfit with a fitted top and relaxed jean that is ideal for layering or just leaving as is.
Styling Notes | Add a belt or keep it simple with some sunnies and slides and there you have it. I’ve also added a structured jacket to this outfit before and it gives it some polish for times you need to look elevated.

That’s all I’ve got for now, I’ll be styling these formulas in days to come so keep your eyes peeled! And I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to enjoy all this spring weather and style some old loves along with the new.
Tell me all the things you are excited about wearing this spring? And how would you style these outfit formulas?
So much love,
Mary Beth
