Happy Friday everyone! Today I’m wearing a very versatile pair of Madewell denim in an outfit formula that really seems to work with full-length wide-leg jeans.
As we all know, the world of denim has been shifting slowly over the last five years or so from skinny jeans to straight-cropped jeans, and now to full-length, looser, and even low-slung styles. And I think a variety of it all is great because it keeps things interesting. We are in a full-blown wild wild west of denim and it’s honestly pretty exciting.
Now I’m not here to say what you should or shouldn’t be wearing because I think everyone should wear what makes them feel most like themselves, but if you have been wanting to experiment with some fun new styles like these wide-leg full-length Madewell jeans I have on then I think these jeans would be a subtle step in that direction.
A little note – there are many other shoe/top combos I think work well with this style of denim, but today I’m just sharing one to keep this more bite-sized.
So with that, here is the formula:
Wide-Leg Full-Length Denim + Fitted Cropped Shirt + Boxy Cropped Over-Shirt + Pointed Heeled Bootie

Let’s break it down: With wide-leg denim, I have noticed that a tighter top as a base layer can really create a beautiful balance to the outfit. Similarly to looser tops with skinnies, just inverting that concept.
I then like to build on that base layer with either a cropped boxier layer or a layer that hits somewhere on the upper/mid thigh below the bum. In this outfit, I went with a boxy cropped corduroy jacket that I think adds some fun texture to the look in addition to balancing it.
Then to finish off the outfit I have loved wearing a slightly heeled boot with a pointed toe, the reason being that full-length denim tends to have an elongating effect on your legs and a heel tends to take that concept even further. It just creates a beautiful line.
A heel also makes this style of denim wearable for all of my petite 5’3” and below gal pals, since a full-length hemline will not swallow you as much if you have heels on.
These three items really make a wearable, and balanced outfit, and the slight heel just makes the whole look feel elevated in an effortless kind of way I am loving.
