An effortless outfit combo I cannot get enough of lately is pairing a dressier (or polished) wardrobe piece with a sporty piece. What I love about this particular pairing is how it creates a polished feel while also being super practical. Plus an opportunity to incorporate some dressier elements into more casual contexts and still feel comfortable is something I personally love.
Of course, there are a lot of different combinations you could create with the dressy/polished + athletic concept in mind, but today I just want to focus on one – a blazer thrown on over an athletic dress. This combo for me is a chef’s kiss. The athletic dress gives me all the room to move about my day, while the blazer gives me coverage over my shoulders, provides structure, and adds a polished vibe to the whole look.
With outfits like these, I like to continue this concept through the shoes and accessories I choose to wear. And you can see that here since my trainers are sporty, and my purse is more polished, once again keeping that balance.
A few styling notes: Sometimes I like to scrunch up the sleeves of my blazer for practical reasons, and I do that by taking two loose hair ties and putting them at the base of my sleeves. I then push up my sleeves and scrunch the material down over them. The actual fit of my blazer contributes a lot to the style of this outfit as well. And for this particular outfit, I love pairing it with an oversized blazer, although I included both a boxy/oversized option along with a more classic draped option down below.
