Happy Thursday! Today I am styling a classic poplin top in a different elevated type of way with a few other classic wardrobe staples.
Poplin tops have always been an absolute must for me when it comes to a wardrobe staple because they are a beautiful way to add a light layering piece in the Spring, Summer, and Autumn months since I live in a warmer climate. Because of that, they automatically win versatility points. But if you know me, you know I am always looking for ways to get more wear out of the items I love in my closet – so I have been experimenting with ways to tuck and button this poplin top and wear it closed as a blouse for a change.
I landed on this one that seems to work pretty well. I call it inverted buttoning and crisscross tucking. First I take two buttons in the middle of the top and button them backward (in front of the hole instead of behind the hole). Then I take one side of the shirt, tuck it across my body, and repeat this on the other side. A few tucks and adjustments towards my waist, and tucking the back of the shirt upwards (since it’s all fitting pretty taught now) finishes the job.
I love the way this tucking transforms the top into something almost completely different.
To finish the whole look I paired the top with straight-leg full-length denim (ones I recommend sizing up in), a white kitten-heeled boot that I have had for years and years, and my favorite white structured shoulder bag.
And there you have it, a creative spin on this very classic top.
