Oversized Coat + Statement Snake Boot

02.07.19Winter Outfits1

Hey there, it’s been a minute, but we added a special little furry pal to our family this past week and she has taken up almost all of our attention… you know how it goes right!?

As promised though, here, is look two of two with my new snazzy snake boots that I have worn a lot recently.

But before diving in, I’ve been thinking, I’m going to start picking apart more of the styling aspect of why I’m putting certain things together.

Reason being is that few things bring me more joy than putting together cool outfits that are repeatable and wearable for more than just myself.

And basically, I believe that having really good style is much simpler than most think, even though it does take a little work and some self-reflection.

So for this outfit and many others, I really wanna take a deeper look into the makeup of it in hopes to simplify the way you look at putting outfits together on the regular.

You with me?

Outfit Formula:

Oversized Coat + Knit + Vintage Jean + Statement Boot

This outfit formula isn’t rocket science, but it is one of my absolute favorites, and just for the sake of it I wanted to break it down to make it even more simple:

Oversized Coat + Insert almost anything you want in here + Statement boot

And these are my reasons…

Something that is oversized or bold usually does well with one other item that balances or brings interest to it, without taking away from it.

For example, because I am wearing a bold boot in this outfit, the oversized jacket looks pretty balanced on my body, but it doesn’t take over the whole look because it’s black. Make sense?

Also, I love this combo purely because I love big coats, and statement boots or just a plain old sneaker. It sparks some kind of excitement in me because I love to make a statement in a very effortless kind of way, and throwing on an awesome coat over jeans and a tee with some chill sneakers, or cool booties feels so easy.

I think it’s always important to wear and be creative with categories in your wardrobe that get you the most excited… Don’t you agree?!

So experimenting with these categories is something I’ll continue to do with joy.

Style Notes || For this outfit, I kept it simple underneath my coat with my go-to coin necklaces over a cotton turtle neck and finished off the look with a full tuck and a simple black belt. You can’t tell from the pictures, but I also wore tall silk black socks that peeked up over the top of my boots to keep my skin warm and add a little flare when I would sit down.

Outfit Details:

Oversized Cocoon Coat

Cotton Turtleneck / Similar (made responsibly)

Vintage Jean / Similar (made responsibly)

Snake Skin Boot (made responsibly) / Similar (made responsibly)

Medium Tote / Similiar (made responsibly)

Coin necklace (one from a set)

Queen Coin Pendant

Black belt old (similar here)

And that’s all I have for now!

But tell me, what are the items in your wardrobe that you always gravitate towards!? Do you experiment with more variety in those categories? Or do you still keep those categories more minimal?
