When I add an item to my wardrobe these days I often think if I can dress this item up and if I can wear it casually. If the answer is yes, then I have found that I get so much more use out of the item and I feel a greater sense of satisfaction purchasing it.
For me, a good basic sweater dress serves this function in my wardrobe, and today I am styling it both in an elevated way and a more casual way.
Let’s jump in, shall we?

Elevated Monochromatic Look

One of my favorite ways to wear an off-white sweater dress is with other beige, nude, and off-white colors which make the outfit monochromatic. It just has such a streamlined look I really enjoy.
Style Notes: I’ve found that the key to nailing a monochromatic look is to break up the color either by the top half and bottom half or to pair the colors in 2’s. In this outfit I went with the second option – the boots and jacket are in a similar beige/nude color and the dress and purse are in more of an off-white color.
Aside from that the boots for me really make this outfit, I love the different texture next to the other pieces that are wool. These boots did run small so I would recommend sizing up a half to full size if you plan on wearing thicker socks.

Casual Dressed Down Look

This is just a casual cool look that is great because it provides warmth in the spring months without being too heavy, and it’s just ever so elevated from pants or denim.
Style notes: The hat, sneakers, and book bag ground this outfit and make it feel so easy and casual. I went with a different color neutral for the hat and I think it breaks up all the cream and white in an effortless way. The crew socks also help balance the bottom half of the outfit with the heaviness of the sweater dress.
In Texas, we won’t be wearing sweater dresses or heavy coats much longer but the lightness of these two outfits make them easy ones to transition into spring.
