Well friends, here we are already in the first few days of July and I’m just getting to talk about my last week of Thrift Month and Week Four Thrift Haul!! But oh well sometimes life happens and you just have to roll with it! You know?!
So here we go!!
Week four of Thrift Month was all about Thrifting the Runway and I took some of Beth’s suggestions from her q&a to thrift with me:
- Soak in inspiration – always be looking at my favorite designers to get a vision for what I’m looking for
- Go often even if I only look through one section over and over again
So here’s how the tips worked for me:
Soak in inspiration
So here’s how it went down – the day before I went thrifting I looked at some of my favorite designers right now and made a mood board on my Instagram of the feeling I was going for. And wow I can genuinely say that it was equal parts challenging and sooo much fun to look for items with that lens on.
I ended up not finding head to toe looks, but I did find several blouses that fit the general mood of the blouses I saw in Ulla Johnson’s and Dôen’s collections.
Go in often and look through the same sections
This is a tip I will just have to continue to weave into my weekly or even monthly routines because either would be more than what I was doing before!
So stay tuned on that.
So here’s what I ended up with:
- White ruffle blouse
- Black lace blouse
- Floral overside collar top
- Silk floral wrap
- Pink suit top
- Red textured jacket
I felt really fortunate to find so many tops in this weeks haul and found that two fell under more of a Dôen-esque look and two under more of a Ulla Johnson look. I also had looks from Isabel Marant, Cult Gaia, and Rachel Comey picked out but wasn’t as successful achieving those! So I went forward with what I had.
Since I couldn’t really find thrifted pants and shoes to complete the looks I was going for either, I settled for the tops and decided to make do with what I had since I wasn’t about to go out and purchase something new… because then why have a month dedicated to thrifting??
I stayed committed and I’m so proud of myself!
There were also a few extra items I found that I’ll share in my Thrift Month Reflections post later this week that wasn’t really inspired by any specific designer, but I just had to have, so be on the lookout for that!
But for now, let’s dive into the two looks inspired by Ulla Johnson shall we?!
Outfit #1 Black Lace Blouse + Washed Black Denim + Statement Earrings + Black Strappy Sandals

Styling Notes | For this first look, I took the concepts of a Victorian neckline, detailed sleeves, dyed jeans, and statement earrings present in Ulla Johnson’s recent collections and recreated all of these concepts with my thrifted top and everything else I owned.
If I was going to purchase something to make this look even more Ulla – I would have styled this top with paper-bag jeans that tied with a bow, and some snakeskin flats, but I stuck with the things I had and ended up really liking this look!

Outfit #2 White Lace Blouse + Wide Leg Button-Fly + White Mules + Statement Earrings

Styling Notes | Again for this look I took a cue from Ulla’s Victorian-inspired neck and shoulder details, paired this thrifted blouse with button-fly wide leg pants that were present in her collection, a neutral statement earring, and a pop of white on my feet to tie it all together.
If I was adding a new piece in the mix, I would style this look with snake print flats again because snakeskin shoes were part of her collection and I love how she mixed modern pieces with more Victorian/Romantic silhouettes.

Now to outfits three and four which are both inspired by one of my favorite slow fashion designers Dôen.
Outfit #3 Silk Floral Wrap + Distressed Denim + Nude Mules
Styling Notes | For this look I kept everything on the effortless side with no jewelry and simple slides because Dôen pieces have this feeling of effortlessness and days gone by. I do not own very many (if any) vintage shoes so I made do and styled this beautiful thrifted top with simple slides and my jeans that look vintage.
Fun little fact -this is not a top, it’s a short silk kimono that I wrapped around my body and tucked to make into a top and I love it that way!
I would say that this is probably my favorite look of them all, mainly because I just love the fabric of the shirt and love how I feel when I am wearing it!

Outfit #4 Wide Collared Vintage Blouse + Dad Jeans + White Mules
Styling Notes | For this look I kept the vintage feels of Dôen once again with the wide-collared vintage blouse and dad jeans, but did a little bit more of a modern shoe with the mule.
Even though it’s not entirely Dôen head-to-toe, I like the balance of this look possibly more with the mules because otherwise I probably would not wear a collar like this one!

So there you have it! Two Ulla Johnson inspired looks and two Dôen inspired looks!
Stay tuned for two more outfits I put together from this haul and all my lessons learned from June’s thrift month coming to you reeealll soon!
But for now tell me, what do you think of Beth’s tips? And have you ever tried thrifting with runway designers in mind?
So much love,
Mary Beth

Wow! Well anyone who loves finding a quality piece of clothing for a great price might really enjoy finding a runway garment at a thrift store! My question is where are these thrift stores or is it a secret?!
